Job Description:

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation (www.msf.org). We are seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for: Timergara Lower Dir project.

MAIN PURPOSE

Provision of clinical support medical care to MSF supported structures.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Patient care and treatment in the DHQ hospital Timergara.
  • Perform initial assessment of patients in the unit.
  • Initiate emergency treatment measures (including resuscitation/CPR) if needed in accordance with level of knowledge and experience under supervision of medical doctor.
  • Perform necessary procedures (e.g. IV cannulation, NGT insertion, urinary catheterisation) in accordance with skill and experience.
  • Administer medications and other necessary treatment in accordance with instructions of medical doctor and document all treatment given.
  • Regularly review patients whilst they are under care, repeating vital signs as needed and adjusting treatment if necessary under guidance of a doctor.
  • Follow up on special investigations as indicated or directed by the medical doctor (e.g. blood tests, x-rays etc.) and follow-up the results.
  • Prepare patients for referral, completing all necessary documentation and liaising with RFP and ambulance staff as required.
  • Stabilize patients for referral.
  • All nursing / emergency care should be provided according to established MSF protocols.
  • Reporting and networking
  • Daily, weekly and monthly nurse reports. Ensure good handover.
  • Ensure that patient files are properly stored and kept confidential.
  • Communicate regularly with medical doctor about patient status and treatment, and possible pasient problems when needed and appropriate.
  • Ensure that all medical forms are available.
  • Pharmacy and stock management
  • Responsible and ensuring sufficient stock of all necessary materials is available in the treatment area.
  • Ensuring strict management of material and minor medical-surgical supplies and consumables.
  • Ensuring the proper management of stocks and renewing orders.
  • Ensure that contaminated waste (including needles and other sharps) is segregated and managed according to MSF protocols.
  • Service Assessment and Development
  • Taking part in and contributing towards training and internal evaluations and making an ongoing effort to maintain and update medical knowledge and skills.
