Job Description:

Introduction


WaterAid is an international non-governmental organization based in the United Kingdom, since 1981. The country programme of WaterAid in Pakistan has been in operation since 2006 under an MoU with the Ministry of Interior. Our mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the poorest communities. WaterAid supports local organizations and governments in setting up low cost and sustainable WASH solutions that can be managed by the community itself. WaterAid also seeks to collaboratively work with sector partners and influence government policies to protect the right of poor people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.


The Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC) is the focal government organization to host SACOSAN VI. In run up to the SACOSAN WaterAid Pakistan, both from Pakistan and from the regional offices, will provide technical support for holding the successful SACOSAN during Mid-February 2018. This short term position is part of WAP support to MOCC for SACOSAN.


Job Purpose


The Programm Officer will assist Pakistan National Focal Point and Manager I&E in developing and managing technical and thematic sessions of the SACOSAN and handling activity coordination, briefings, and coordination meetings at WAP office. The Communication Officer will distribute time for WAP office and SACOSAN secretariat according to the requirements shared by MOCC. The Programme Officer SACOSAN primarily will be stationed at SACOSAN Secretariat.


Key Responsibilities:


Coordination for complete activity cycle planning, setting and communicating deadlines and priorities, evaluate project risks and issues and provide regular reports. Deliver events on time and within budget, which meet and strive to exceed expectations on quality and financial performance.


Source and brief speakers, manage application and judging processes, manage delegate/attendee expectations, conduct post event evaluations


Source and manage country and civil society delegations relationships, facilitate the interface between SACOSAN delegates, speakers and logistic and admin teams.


Assists in the supervision, directing and coordination of activities of Secretariat staff, partners, volunteers and suppliers as required to successfully execute all aspects of the SACOSAN event(s)


Serves as the liaison between the SACOSAN Secretariat and communication, logistic and admin teams and prepare progress report for national focal person.


Person Specification


Essential


Post-graduate degree or equivalent in Management, Environmental Sciences, Development sciences or policy management


Desirable


Post graduate degree in relevant subject e.g. management sciences, social science sciences.


Experience


Essential


2-3 years professional experience in WASH issues, environment managemnt, managing stakeholder relationships, strategic activity coordination, event management, and communications


Desirable


Significant experience of community based water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion projects


Experience of working with partner organizations (NGOs or local government).


Experience of project management and good command on MS Office applications


Experience in partner management and donor reporting


Knowledge and Skills


Essential


Working knowledge of Pakistan development issues particularly WASH


Event/Project Management approach, including planning and delivery (Specifically special events)


Experience delivering large special events (i.e. Awards, conferences…)


Experience delivering bespoke networking events


Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with meticulous attention to detail and tight deadlines;


Ability to priorities, plan well in advance and multi-task


Ability to build relationships with multi-cultural team members, leaders.   


Desirable


Good understanding of community management and the integration of water supply with sanitation and hygiene


Ability to communicate in local languages
